An established business leader in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Alejandro Herrera served as the managing director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civíl – IDAC) from 2011 to 2020. Dr. Alejandro Herrera worked to enable sustained progress in his country’s aviation safety measures and ensure that civil aviation standards compliance was uniformly high. Through the IDAC, he also oversaw the implementation of the ATFM/CDM system as a benchmark air traffic flow control system.
Dr. Herrera holds postgraduate degrees in critical history, judicial studies, public management, and government and public administration. From 1988 to 1992, he held public as the personnel manager of the Dominican Corporation of State Companies. He subsequently accepted the positions of vice-governor of the Las Américas International Airport and director of political parties of the Central Electoral Board.
Since 2004, Dr. Herrera has been active on the board of the National Drug Control Directorate. He is also a prolific newspaper columnist and author who was the winner of the Secondary Literary Contest for his 1983 novel, La Gesta Restauradora. Dr. Alejandro Herrera has also co-produced numerous topical radio and television programs.
